Scripture Reading: The First Passover Instituted
I’m going to start out this morning by inviting you to participate in a litany of words describing the summer of 2017. …How about evacuation? If you think about it, a lot of things happened this summer that resulted in some sort of evacuation. The obvious for local folk in Burlington is evacuation from the flood and if you’re in the South, evacuations hopefully before hurricanes. If you’ve spent any time out west or been watching the news, a lot of evacuations due to wildfires. We’ve had a number of incidents where people have had to evacuate an area because there was a shooter and there’s always fear and evacuation around anything like a bomb threat or something like a gas leak. Unfortunately they’re all bad and scary kind of things as we talked about with the children this morning. In the news, in the last 48 hours, the storm warnings that have been taking place, the need to be at the ready and prepared to evacuate especially in the south with the hurricanes. Such was the dynamic just prior to the infamous Exodus that is recorded in the book of Exodus and especially as we look at Exodus 12.
