Throughout the centuries of the life and times of the Hebrew people, prophets would come offer them words of hope and redemption, words of rescue and release, words of restoration and return. The Prophet Jeremiah was no exception as he offered them reminders of God’s promises to them while they’re still in captivity, while they’re still in exile. Our text today comes late in the Book of Jeremiah. He’s no longer scolding the people for their sin and lack of faithfulness to God, but rather Jeremiah is bringing them a new message from God. They were being given a second chance.
