The Parable of the Lost Sheep and The Parable of the Lost Coin
I like what Robert Capon has done with these parables in the gospel for today. Part of what I will share with you will be his thoughts. I like for us to think about the first two parables. Those are covered by the texts that Steve read earlier. I will read the rest of it when I come to the next part.
Most of the time we get the parables of Jesus wrong. We think Jesus is telling us what we ought to do. We see them as sort of lessons in loveliness or life lessons. We think that if we can master the lesson in the parable we’ll turn out to be model children or some such thing. The point is that parables are not about us. No more than is worship on a Sunday morning about us.
