Scripture Reading: Whom to Fear / Not Peace, but a Sword
In today’s scripture, Jesus is preparing the disciples to go out into the world to preach the gospel. Jesus warns them that they will face opposition and possibly violence. Jesus tells them, “Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth; I have not come to bring peace, but a sword.” Listen in as Pastor Bob explains the metaphorical meaning of this passage where sword refers to separation and division. He reminds us that Jesus came to bring “truth” and very often the truth divides; more often than not we end up with two sides of the truth. The sad reality is that more often than not, the two sides of the truth are often both professed in the name of Jesus Christ. So, it becomes a matter of perspective.
