Scripture Reading: Jesus’ Triumphal Entry into Jerusalem
It’s Palm Sunday again and that must mean we are at the beginning of yet another Holy Week as we head down the homestretch of the Lenten season, as we move towards Jerusalem, the Last Supper, the crucifixion, the burial. This year we began our Lenten journey on February 14th which was the same day the world received news of yet another mass shooting in a public school. Sadly this dark cloud continues to follow us and will continue to hover over us until we come to some resolution as a people… As the issue is being debated, we’ve heard a whole lot of shouting from both sides of the issue. From those who are most passionate about the need for effective change when it comes to gun ownership to those who are trying to uphold a person’s right to bear arms regardless of the power of the weaponry or how many shots per second it is capable of. Two crowds clashing and converging on something that should never have reached the point in which it has. It’s quite perplexing, to say the least. Believe it or not, our Palm Sunday lesson has a very similar dynamic to it. For our story of Palm Sunday also portrays a major clash between two different camps.
