Pastor’s Pen – May 2024 -Planning for the Future

Celebration – 6 Months & Planning for the Future:

Here we are, seven months into our new relationship as congregation and pastor. Many of you have come to me with your praise and input for worship services and seasons of the church year. I am grateful for the words you have shared. I am grateful for the new ideas we have tried out and for any input you give to shorten sermons to more kid stuff! I sincerely want to point out something to you; this congregation is as responsible for any wonders we have received in worship as anyone who planned the worship. You here at Plymouth have created an atmosphere that is open to some new ideas and you have nurtured me, the staff, and the worship team to step up and out on faith. Thank you for creating that open atmosphere. Please don’t hesitate to bring forward ideas and changes. Those who plan worship and small groups need to hear your words and thoughts.

As I go forward toward completing year one as Pastor and Teacher at Plymouth UCC, I want to organize some time for us to share scripture and inspired time together. To that end, I am putting forward some Bible study, book study, and fellowship for us to share. I am planning ahead hoping that you will find what calls to you, put it on your schedule, and plan around it. Below you will find information for Lunch Bunch, Pot Lucks, Bible Studies, and a Book Study. Please plan ahead to nurture your relationship with God by fellowship, discussion, and scripture.

First published in 1967, two unlikely boys, a Hassidic Jew and a Modern Orthodox Jew, become friends. The book takes place during WW II and the creation of the state of Israel. Recently, Rev. Yvette, and Jackie and Bob Kastengren, were blessed to see the novel transformed to the stage in Milwaukee. Rev. Yvette will be comparing some of the dialogue in the book to the monologue of the script.

Questions to be explored:

  • How does religion unite and separate us from each other?
  • How is history still connected to the present day in Israel/Palestine?
  • How do we live in a gray world when we seek black and white answers?

The power of friendship explored.
